AP Studio Art 2019-2020

My Concentration Is "Truly Seeing Yourself As You Truly Are vs. What Society Thinks I Am". My first piece demonstrates that society expects us to be happy with those around us, and that in everyday life it should be perfect.  How the man in this piece sees me that in the worst day of my life everything is rough. But he truly sees how I feel about myself and how no matter how rough life gets he won't let me go nor will he forget my past.

Self Reflection:

In this first piece I believe I could have been better than how it came out. The background could have gotten a little bit more work than I put in it, as to define the bottles a little bit better than how it came out.

This piece was a piece that in my AP studio art class we had to match up with a famous artist to create an art alike theirs. I paired mine to Edvard Munch, "The scream". A statement Edvard made says the truth about mental illness, " I can not get rid of my illnesses for there is a lot in my art that exists only because of them." he made the scream based off how he was feeling that day when he was with a couple friends and he just felt so overwhelmed and just wanted to scream he stated. His family had a lot of background that his family had promised him some type of mental health problems while growing up. He eventually had a mental break down which was then aggravated by alcoholism. The reason these two tie in with each other is, I myself have health problem both mentally and physically. In society you're targeted as, either a danger to others or yourself which isn't always true. I did this piece to show you that i had dreams to work at the places such as Tractor Supply Co., A security Guard, and a certified horse trainer. my body condition has stopped me a couple times doing those objectives, but i've never let them win, and put me down into a depression. I've always pushed forward to purse my wish.

Masks are very influenced with today's society and how well we hide behind them to show we are not weak. Here in this piece I drew my eyes with a smoky background. The bottom set shows that not always do we hide behind our masks too well, and sometimes we just have to show we are hurting sometimes. And that its okay to not be 100% okay all the way around. The top set shows how serious I can be in life, and determined while hiding behind my own mask of whats going on deep down inside me through that time period, and sometimes this mask brings the best out of me, and makes me more determined to change who i am, and what i've done. The smoky background is suppose to demonstrate that I have not always been in the clear my whole life, and that its sometimes been dark times even when i've had to put a fake face on to say i'm okay.

In my second piece of my concentration, I   chose to do a piece on one of my life choices. This piece is suppose to demonstrate that there was a time when I was growing up where I had to chose one hobby over the other which was a constant battle between horses or cheerleading. So in this image I have a horse looking down into a puddle, with a Denver Bronco cheerleading outfit. As I am a "Retired" Junior Denver Bronco Cheerleader. The outfit is covered with mud, and all wrinkled to show that after time my career in cheer just got old and tiring and messy. So the horse is a reflection on of my choice, which the horse is my heart horse that passed away on me in September of 2017.

This piece in my concentration is an unconventional surface that I tried on a broken mirror. You'll notice that the piece here has writing on them. In the picture with my reflection and a picture of me in the middle, that side is what society shows on its good days and when people feel the need to make you stand out in the crowd. Which to the viewer, it's showing the reflection of them and if they believe any of the words being said to me. The other side of the mirror shows what society really is at the end of the day. how those same people turn on you once you have what they want, the spit horrible words out at those who just want to be successful in life. Which has always had an effect on me since I was growing up.

In today's society, people often think that a daughter and father should have an important bond within each other. here in my piece I  demonstrated that in my life, thats not true about what society says or thinks. The bond between both my father and I are terrible and it's painful. The ribbon that ties us together is covered in "wounds and blood" because in my eyes the bond between us both is just too much to handle as there has been so much damage done and just can't and wont be healed. The background in the picture shows night time because at most is when I wish things were different between my dad and I, and how cold we both can be towards each other.
